THE UTO - United Thank Offering
In 1889 two energetic women made UTO's first appeal for donations, to build a new church in Alaska and to send a missionary to Japan, undertakings which were at that time very progressive.
In 1910 UTO instituted the every member canvas, which supported the Church Pension Fund, the Domestic Foreign Missionary Society, the Women's Auxiliary, and the opening of Bible study classes to women. By 1943 the annual collection had reached over a million dollars.
Currently, the UTO Offering Committee awards grants with money that is collected from the Blue Boxes, the Dioceses, the General Convention, trusts, and grants. In 2000 they distributed over $3 million dollars to projects in the U.S. and in other countries. For more information, you can go to their website.
