Email from Maggie Land
In case you didn't guess, we had a thunder boomer last nite that sent us to the ceiling-more rain-went to the Usuthu
Farm this morning with John Weatherson, Farm Mgr-wandered into the fields where many women, having experienced
much washing out of the field from last nite's storm, were working. All were in bare feet, digging holes with a
stick, pushing cabbage and fennel seedlings into very wet earth. They ignored us until John introduced us, and
Dan took photos with the digital camera-then, all were thrilled and more photos had to be taken of different women.
It was joyous to see the new hi-tech camera produce smiles on otherwise serious workers' faces. We two meandered
up the road and saw some men trying to replace sandbags that dammed up the canal-they had all been washed away
by the storm, - again. We were greeted by bunches of 3 - 4 yr. olds, all smiles, whom we found out were asking
us to bring sweets the next time we visit.
Dan will try to attach some of his digital photos in his next note to you -this
countryside is so beautiful, and the mountains and valleys are lush and
green. I am still taking "point and shoot" photos, and will take them to the US with me. They are duplicates
of the digital camera, in many cases. We are "making our way", and will attend a lecture tonite on the
Swaziland of the 50's and 60's. All will be well. Please pray for the flooded folks in Mozambique.
We are ok here, and "growing moss on our north side" .
Love,
maggie
From Dan Land:
Per Maggie's earlier note I am attaching several pictures of our visit to "The
Farm", one owned by the Anglican Church.
The purpose of the farm is to provide decent wages for the local Swazis and hopefully livig conditions better than those available to workers at secular farms.
The operation is controlled by a board composed of Anglican clergy and laity.
The farm manager, John Weatherson, is a dedicated christian who came to Swaziland over 20 years ago as an agricultural missionary.
He is a dedicated man!
Here come the pictures!
Yours in Christ, Dan

Here are the two women (farm leaders) working in the fields as mentioned above.

The children on the farm, hoping for "sweets" on the next vist.

Here are farm workers repairing and sandbagging a washout ditch, which is overflowing with runoff from the heavy rains.
