The Rev. Laura Howell's Reception into the Episcopal Church

Those of you who were able to be with us on Sunday, May 6, at the 8:00 am service had the opportunity to witness a relatively rare event. On that date, Laura Howell, who was ordained a priest in the Apostolic Catholic Church (part of the Old Catholic movement in Europe), had her priestly orders received into the Episcopal Church by Bishop Paul.

The immediate effect on the life of the parish is going to be rather small, since Mother Laura has already been able to fully exercise a sacramental ministry here. But in the larger life of the Diocese and the National Church, Mother Laura's reception means that she will now be recognized as an Episcopal priest and expected to participate fully in our larger life together. The Vestry, at their April meeting, voted to recognize this occasion by purchasing a silver oil stock (used in anointing the sick) as gift for Mother Laura.
